Stretch Marks, An Introduction

Stretch marks, also called striae, are essentially scars that have resulted from a sudden stretching of the skin.

Just like scarring as a result of injury, stretch marks indicate that the middle layer of the dermis has been damaged and broken down. Stretch marks indicate where they breakdown has taken place. At first, stretch marks can appear bright purple or red, but over time, they will fade, appearing shiny and several shades lighter than a person’s actual skin tone.

Who Gets Stretch Marks
